Personal comfort systems

What’s all this for?

Rising energy costs require alternative supply concepts that can also be used in existing office buildings in order to significantly reduce energy consumption. However, it is known that many energy saving measures either require a lot of effort (e.g. converting heating systems, renovating the building envelope, etc.) or have a detrimental effect on comfort (reducing room temperature).

What are we planning to do?

For this reason, it is being investigated whether personal comfort systems (PKS) can be used to reduce energy consumption while maintaining or even improving comfort by offering each person the opportunity to control their temperature individually. Among other things, seat heating technology, as known from the automotive industry, is used here. In winter, the room temperature is kept a few degrees below the normal setpoint, while each person can individually reheat using their office chair. In summer, instead of cooling to low interior temperatures, cooling is carried out via the office chair.

The first step is to examine on a small scale how the concept of personal comfort systems is accepted by employees and what potential there is for saving energy. If the results are positive, the next step is to carry out a test phase under real conditions.
