What’s all this for?

The energy transition towards renewable energies is leading to the decentralization and liberalization of the German electricity network. In addition, the availability of energy fluctuates, both in the power grid and in building-integrated power generation. On the one hand, this creates new sales markets for balancing energy as well as dynamic electricity prices that are intended to keep the electricity network stable. On the other hand, buildings must be able to have a high proportion of owner-occupied buildings so that the installation of photovoltaic systems remains economical. This topic is becoming increasingly relevant for office and apartment buildings due to new regulations (tenant electricity, GEG) and technical developments (facade-integrated photovoltaics).

What are we planning to do?

In this context, the foundation will investigate how the use of energy in office buildings can be made more flexible in order to increase the share of self-use electricity generation, open up new sales markets for balancing energy and reduce the connected load or use it for power-hungry e-charging points. Various strategies should be developed that can be adapted to the conditions of the respective building.

In order to realize this project, the foundation plans to apply for a funding program. By participating in this program, we hope to not only receive financial support, but also to gain valuable insights that can help further advance the energy transition in Germany.
